Drinking Water Treatment Plants

The Plant had been constructed in 1921 on about 25,200 m² in Helwan Governorate and was designed for max. the capacity of 80,000 m³/day. The plant depends on the Nile River to provide the potable water to Helwan & Kafr El-Elou regions. During this long period, many enhancements had been done but because of the oldness of the plant, the capacity reduced to be 68,000 m³/day.  For all the previous & the importance of the plant, this project has born.  The scope of works for this project includes an extension of the facilities and equipment to increase the capacity to be 400,000 m³/day.

Design & Engineering.

Supply & Erection of the Mechanical & Electrical Equipment as follows:

1. Inlet Chamber:
   • 3 Mechanical band screens
   • 2 belt conveyors (horizontal & inclined)
2. Raw water pumping station building:
   • 12 Raw water pumps:

Q = 2,304 m³/h

H = 19 m

P = 134 kW

    • Submersible dewatering pump 30m³/h@12m

    • Double girder travelling crane 5 tons

3. Clarifiers:

• 8 Clarifiers 17.5m x 31.5 each
• 8 Flash mixers
• 16 Agitators for flocculation zone
• Lamellas for lamella clarifier
• 16 Sludge recirculation pumps 122m³/h@6m
• 8 Excess sludge pumps 60m³/h@20m
• 12 Isolating penstocks

4. Filters:

• 20 Filters 8x16m each
• 28 Isolating penstocks
• 92 valves DN150 – DN800
• 4 Adjustable straight overflow weir
• 6 Backwash water pumps:

Q = 1,600 m³/h

H = 10 m

P = 56 kW

5. Treated water pumping station building:

• Pressure boosting pump:

Q = 250 m³/h

H = 50 m

P = 18.5 kW
